What role will I play as a home care assistant?

As a home care assistant, you will be playing an important role in other people’s lives, helping each individual with living necessities, and promoting their well-being, dignity and independence.

Care duties involve assisting the service user with several crucial activities involving personal care, healthcare, dietary care, personal services and domestic services. Each service user will have a different schedule and requirements, so it is important to take into consideration the service user’s care plan so you know what responsibilities you will be partaking in.

Personal care

Many of our service users will require prescribed medication for several reasons and they must receive and take their medication according to their schedule. You will be helping them stick to their schedule by following their care plan, ensuring their medication is taken, as well as fetching the required prescriptions from pharmacies if necessary.

It can be challenging to manage medication, you will be doing a vital and rewarding role in assisting with prescription and medication

Healthcare

Personal care can make a huge difference in a service user’s quality of life and is vital for those who struggle with everyday labours and routines.

As one of our home care assistants, you’ll be helping service users get dressed and undressed – preparing them for daycare or trips out, washing clients by bathing, showering, grooming and cleaning their teeth, toileting and ensuring good hygiene standards are met. If a client has mobility issues, you’ll also be assisting them with any mobility they require such as helping them in and out of bed or getting them out in their wheelchair.

The aim of providing personal care is to help our service users feel like themselves, offering them the quality of life that they perhaps are not capable of achieving themselves.

Dietary care

As one of our friendly care assistants, preparing service user’s meals will be one of your duties in providing healthy, nutritious and tasty meals to ensure both physical and mental well-being. You’ll get to know the service user’s likes and dislikes and prepare their favourite meals, snacks and drinks, in addition to assisting with feeding if required. Part of this duty may also be shopping for food and the desired meals.

Domestic and household services

Ensuring a service user’s home is clean and respectable will help them feel empowered and comfortable, therefore, offering a positive sense of well-being. Many of our service users simply can’t perform basic cleaning tasks, such as dusting, vacuuming, polishing, bed making, laundry and taking out the rubbish. This is where you will come in and take care of these important tasks for them .

Frequently asked questions

Previous care experience may be advantageous but not essential. All training is provided and there is the opportunity to gain a Level 2/3 Diploma in Health & Social Care.

Start dates are dependent on availability of work and DBS approval/references which must be provided by you. If you already have valid DBS approval and all the appropriate references and paperwork, you can expect a much sooner start date.

We offer competitive rates of pay given the industry. We pride ourselves on offering pay that includes travel time and mileage payments on top of hourly wage. We offer 45p per mile.

Yes, lots of room for progression towards a Senior/Team Leader role are available. We are always looking for passionate, caring individuals to not only join our team, but remain here and shape the team’s future. Flexibility is key in this industry, as such, everyone’s flexibility and availability will be discussed as appropriate.

Yes, a valid driving license and access to a road legal vehicle is essential. We offer mileage payments as standard.
